Springbok record against New Zealand:

South Africa (Springboks) and New Zealand (All Blacks), whose rivalry is of epic proportion, first met at test level in 1921.

New Zealand opened the series with a 13-5 victory in Dunedin although South Africa came back to win the second test 9-5. The final test ended in a 0-0 draw, a rarity between these two countries, and the series was shared. (Click for More)

Already it was clear that the rivalry between the two was like no other.

Super Rugby is the major professional rugby union competition in the Southern Hemisphere. The competition began as Super 12 in 1996, consisting of 12 teams from Australia, South Africa and New Zealand.

An extra Australian and South African team were added in 2005 and the name was changed to Super 14. A fifteenth team joined in 2011 and the competition was rebranded as Super Rugby.

The current format consists of three conferences of five teams from each country.

The national anthem of South Africa is a shortened, combined version of “Nkosi Sikelel’ iAfrika” (God Bless Africa) and “The Call of South Africa” (known in Afrikaans as “Die Stem van Suid Afrika”).

A proclamation issued by the State President on 20 April, 1994 stipulated that both Nkosi Sikelel’ iAfrika and Die Stem would be the national anthems of South Africa.

The combined anthem came into effect on October, 1997, after the English words were added and the musical re-arrangement done by Jeanne Rudolph.

North west of Pitlochry in the Scottish Highlands is the village of Fortingal.

In the village churchyard is an ancient yew tree which dates back to before Pontius Pilate and is reputed to be the oldest living vegetation in Europe.

Under the yew tree is the grave of Donald Currie, the founder of Fortingal.

Donald Currie was born in Glasgow, the third son of a Greenock barber. He left school at the age of 14 and went to work in the counting house of a sugar firm, called McFie.
